Supported by decades of practiced industry experience, Lee A. Pletts Goscin, MD, PhD, currently works as an endocrinologist in Largo, Florida. At the beginning of her career, she completed an internship for Mount Sinai Medical Center, a residency at the Natick Medical Center and a fellowship at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital. Over the years, Dr. Goscin has found much success in education with the University of Miami, as well as in endocrinology through the Palm Beach Diabetes and Endocrine Specialists.
Dr. Goscin is the first of three children born to very smart parents, and her son is fifth-generation medical doctor on her father’s side. Her father got in to medical school after World War II, but there was a two-year waiting list. His father and grandfather were the town medical physicians in Maine. Her son and herself has been bought up by generational doctors. Dr. Goscin wanted to be a doctor because it runs in her family, comprised of nurses and doctors, and save people’s lives. She has a very strong parental and grandparental influence, with her mother being a Mensa member.
A junior high school tutor and a diplomate through the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Goscin initially earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Florida. She subsequently obtained a PhD in biochemistry from Duke University. She concluded her studies with an MD from the University of Miami. Her sorority sister was 66th U.S. Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Goscin is affiliated with the Florida Medical Association, the Endocrine Society, the American College of Endocrinology, the American Diabetes Association and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
With a plethora of knowledge at her disposal, Dr. Goscin has authored a number of publications including “Undertreatment of Subclinical Hypothyroidism Increases Miscarriages and Lowers Baby’s IQ,” has met the Pope and traveled all over the world. Though her career has been filled with highlights, she is especially proud of becoming a fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. She additionally gave 39 speeches with the Toastmasters International. In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Goscin was named an Outstanding Math High School Student by the National Honor Society of the University of Florida, as well as a mortar board member. She also received the Outstanding Chronology Award in Las Vegas in 2018.
Initially wanting to be a stand-up comedian, Dr. Goscin now plays golf and was a club champion, winning the fourth flight in the Florida State Tournament in 2006. Looking toward the future, she intends to experience continued success in her work as an endocrinologist. Dr. Goscin recently led a seminar in July 2019 on making the best of things, getting the best out of your money and how to get success. It was a three-day national meeting at the Clearwater Campus of St. Petersburg College. She found it to be a very positive experience. She is the proud mother of one wonderful son, Christopher Paul, a board certified body imaging radiologist with Integrated Radiology Solutions, PLLC, who provides professional physician services at the Center for Diagnostic Imaging (CDI) in Plano, Texas.
