Beginning her career as an internist after making house calls to patients, Evelyne M. Davidson, MD, has been exposed to the medical field for as long as she can remember. Her mother was a nurse and her father was a doctor. She also received a job dealing with clinical drug trials from responding to an ad she came across in the newspaper. Dr. Davidson first joined New Hanover Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, North Carolina, as an intern in 1987, completing this position in one year before receiving a residency in internal medicine from 1988 to 1990. Her career highlight was coming out of residency work and joining her father, Elvyn, in his private practice for four years. It was difficult and time consuming, but she enjoyed getting to know the patients on a personal level.
Continuing on her life’s path, Dr. Davidson then became a physician with Baptist Primary Care System from 1994 to 1998, now serving in the same role with Premier Medical Associates since 1998. Additionally, she has been the medical director of the Knoxville Office of Smoky Mountain Hospice since 2011 and a principal investigator of new phase research and development since 2013. Prior to the start of her professional career, Dr. Davidson pursued a formal education at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1983. She then matriculated at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, where she obtained an MD in 1987.
Throughout her career, Dr. Davidson tries to be a role model for African American females and to help them understand that, no matter where you are from, it is possible to attain higher education and become a professional. She also believes that “To whom much is given, much is expected.” She tried her best to come back to the community she is from, and give back to the people. Dr. Davidson’s parents were her greatest mentors. Considering they were both medical professionals as well, their guidance was a great help to her.
In order to keep up with trends in her field, Dr. Davidson has maintained involvement with a number of related organizations. She has remained active with the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association, the Tennessee Medical Association, the Knoxville Academy of Medicine, the Tennessee Medical Association and the Knoxville Academy of Medicine. In honor of her myriad accomplishments, Dr. Davidson was honored with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and was selected for inclusion in the third edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and numerous editions of Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World.
