Elizabeth Bogan

Inspired by the ways in which people interact with each other and utilize shared resources, Elizabeth Chapin Bogan, PhD, has committed herself to pursing the study of economics. She has worked as a senior lecturer in economics for Princeton University since 1992. Sharing her insights with others, Dr. Bogan has written articles related to the field of macroeconomics in addition to serving as an economics educator.

Prior to beginning her career, Dr. Bogan studied at multiple institutions in order to broaden her knowledge of economics. She first earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College in 1966. Dr. Bogan then received a Master of Arts from the University of New Hampshire in 1967 and a PhD from Columbia University in 1971.

Dr. Bogan previously spent two decades with Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey. She worked as the economics and finance department chair from 1984 to 1992, a professor of economics from 1982 to 1992, an assistant professor of economics from 1971 to 1975 and an associate professor of economics from 1975 to 1982. Additionally, Dr. Bogan was a visiting professor at Princeton University in 1991 before assuming a full-time position with the institution.

Influential in her field, Dr. Bogan maintains membership with multiple organizations related to economics. She is a member of both the American Economic Association and the International Atlantic Economic Society. She has also been a member of the American Association of University Professors and the Eastern Economic Association. In recognition of her achievements, Dr. Bogan has been the recipient of numerous awards. She was presented the Outstanding Teacher Award from Fairleigh Dickinson University three times between 1986 and 1979. She is also the four-time recipient of four Richard Quandt Awards for Teaching Economics from Princeton University between 1997 and 2015.

Furthermore, Dr. Bogan is a fellow of the National Science Foundation and was an Amelia Earhart fellow with Columbia University from 1968 to 1971.  She also serves on four boards of the Gabelli Funds in Rye, New York, as director, including the Gabelli Utility Trust, the Ellsworth Growth and Income Fund, the Bancroft Fund and the Gabelli U.S. Treasury Money Market Fund. Due to her eminence, Dr. Bogan has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the East. She currently travels between Boston and Princeton, New Jersey, and enjoys spending time with her four granddaughters, Sarah and Meghan in Natick, Massachusetts, and Tyra and Kyla in California.

Dr. Bogan has enjoyed being part of the expanding role for women in economics. Women have enhanced traditional economic topics such as public policy and finance, but they have also added a special emphasis to the economics of families and environmental issues. Many topics such as poverty and early childhood, which were formerly under-researched, have been expanded by female economists who see the world through different lenses.
