Proven and longtime trusted trial attorney Elizabeth A. Kaveny is the managing partner at Kaveny + Kroll Trial Lawyers in Chicago, Illinois, where she has represented satisfied clients since 2019 in cases involving medical malpractice, personal injury, suicide, police misconduct, and sexual abuse. Dedicated to fighting for individuals and groups who seek her help, her winning record includes securing a $32 million settlement for an 8-year-old girl who lost all her limbs from an untreated infection, among other high-profile as well as lesser-known cases.

Ms. Kaveny’s prowess in trial law has been celebrated with a litany of awards. She was named one of the Top 10 Attorneys of Illinois by Super Lawyers in 2024 and is consistently listed among the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Illinois by the same institution. She has also been honored with the Top Women Lawyers in Leadership Award by the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois and was named one of the Top Five Attorneys in Personal Injury by Crain’s Chicago Business. Ms. Kaveny ascribes her achievements to hard work, empathy, and the guidance of great mentors throughout her educational and professional journeys.

Moreover, Ms. Kaveny says she has learned that meticulous preparation is the cornerstone of success, requiring steadfast dedication. Balancing the demands of trial law with family life has taught her that it’s a shared journey. Most important, she understands that a lawyer’s reputation—built on integrity and consistency—is a priceless asset that endures throughout their career. Away from her professional and personal pursuits, Ms. Kaveny prioritizes her family and enjoys traveling, playing golf, and restoring houses. She is the proud mother of four children—two in high school, one recently graduated from the University of Notre Dame, and one attending Indiana University.

Having blazed significant trails for decades in the courtroom and in academia, Ms. Kaveny was a partner at Burke Wise Morrissey Kaveny for nearly ten years and at Propes & Kaveny during the decade prior. Just before her leap to Kaveny + Kroll Trial Lawyers, she found the decision to break away from a larger firm both challenging and liberating. She recognized that she had another strong and meaningful chapter left in her career, and she was determined to pursue it on her own terms. When the timing felt right, and she was content with the choice she made, she embraced the opportunity to shape the new phase of her professional life independently. Early on, Ms. Kaveny began her legal career as an associate attorney at Epstein, Zaideman & Esrig P.C. in 1992. In the education sector, she has been an adjunct professor at Northwestern University School of Law since 1999, a faculty member in trial advocacy at Loyola University Chicago since 1994 and has contributed to the National Institute for Trial Advocacy since 1988. Laying a strong educational foundation of her own for her future success, Ms. Kaveny earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science in economics from Lehigh University.

In parallel to her work, Ms. Kaveny has consistently given her time and talents to organizations and causes that are close to her heart, including the Mercy Home for Boys and Girls for more than ten years. She also is a board member at Saint Ignatius College Prep and was president of the Illinois Bar Foundation. Moving forward, she aims to keep her position as managing partner at Kaveny + Kroll Trial Lawyers while continuing to expand the firm. She also will continue to mentor young women aspiring to enter the legal profession and hopes to bolster this goal by establishing a scholarship.
