With more than 30 years of excellence in health care and senior housing, Kandice R. Alcorn is guided by the motto: “Just remember your why.” This professionally pervasive mindset has embodied her accomplishments to date and is the driving force behind her career pursuits. Always true to her passions, Ms. Alcorn refuses to give up on achieving her goals, persevering past any obstacles and overcoming all challenges.
Since 2024, Ms. Alcorn has been the owner and consultant of her own firm, KRA Consulting Services LLC, in Tennessee, where she leverages her subject-matter expertise in the post-acute and senior housing industry to help technology companies bring new products into the space. She is proud of building an extensive professional network, which she regards as the foundation of her enduring success, as it has helped her identify opportunities and establish new business relationships. Throughout her career, she has learned to maintain confidence in her abilities. Despite once joking that working as a consultant would be her role in retirement, Ms. Alcorn realized she was nowhere near ready to slow down and instead established KRA Consulting Services LLC, a decision that has led her to unprecedented wins.
Ms. Alcorn began her journey in the health care industry at the young age of 15, when she began working as a certified nursing assistant or CAN. Upon graduating from Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) in 1993, she worked as a registered nurse (RN) for St. Mary of the Plains Hospital for two years, after which she was a floor RN at Attica Long-Term Care Center. From 1996 to 1998, she was the director of nursing and the assistant director of nursing for the Country Club Care Center. Further, Ms. Alcorn worked for National HealthCare for more than a decade, starting in 1998 as a nurse and rising to become the director of nursing before her departure in 2012. After working for the Formation Healthcare Group as the manager and vice president of clinical and regulatory monitoring, she earned a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with an emphasis in nurse executive leadership from Benedictine University and left the group to accept a new role as vice president of clinical services for Frontier Management LLC in 2017. Moreover, between 2020 and 2022, Ms. Alcorn was the company’s chief nursing officer, and from 2022 to 2024, she was the chief clinical and operations officer before departing to launch KRA Consulting Services LLC.
An RN in Tennessee and Oregon, Ms. Alcorn is a member of the American Red Cross, the American Health Care Association, the Oregon Health Care Association, the Texas Assisted Living Association, the California Assisted Living Association, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She has shared her knowledge as an expert witness on quality of care and assists young professional women as a mentor for the Women in Leadership Organization. Among her many professional accomplishments, Ms. Alcorn was listed in the Top 10 Inspiring Women Leaders by Industry Era Women Leaders in 2022. While she worked for Frontier Management LLC, the company was ranked third in the country by JD Power & Associates for resident satisfaction in senior housing. In addition, she was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Looking to the future, Ms. Alcorn hopes to have a lasting impact on the senior housing industry. She sees the space as undergoing a significant period of change and plans to take an active role in shaping its future to create a better environment for residents. As a proud mother, she hopes to inspire and influence her daughters, as well as young professional women in health care, to set their sights high and pursue careers as clinicians. In her personal time, Ms. Alcorn cherishes time with her family and enjoys the outdoors.
