
Zhuoying “Joy” Xu, CFA, is a senior director at Verizon Investment Management Corp (VIMCO), where she leverages over two decades of financial services experience. Ms. Xu’s career at Verizon began in 2000 and has steadily progressed to her current leadership role.
Ms. Xu holds a Master of Science in finance from Boston College Carroll School of Management and a bachelor’s degree from Tianjin University of Technology in China. Her chartered financial analyst (CFA) designation further demonstrates her commitment to professional excellence. Prior to Verizon, Ms. Xu gained valuable experience at Merrill Lynch & Inc. as an investment banking associate and at BlackRock as a risk analyst.
As a senior director at VIMCO, Ms. Xu has achieved significant results. Notably, she oversaw a substantial improvement in Verizon’s pension fund’s funding status, aligning pension assets and liabilities more effectively. She also spearheaded the investment in a Global Tactical Asset Allocation (GTAA) overlay portfolio, generating over $1.1 billion in profit over ten years. Ms. Xu’s expertise extends to designing a flexible pension portfolio that capitalizes on market dislocations and selecting high-performing external managers. She has also introduced innovative strategies such as tail risk hedging, portable alpha, and risk premium portfolios, adding value and mitigating downside risk. Additionally, Ms. Xu fosters a supportive and innovative team environment.
