Yvonne Malloy

Yvonne Yvette Malloy, MPP, originally planned to pursue a career in medicine when she began her higher education. She is grateful to have been mentored by U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone of Minnesota, who was her undergraduate professor. He recognized her innate talent for administration and influenced her to change her career path. Redirecting her efforts, Ms. Malloy leaned into her passion for health policy and graduated from Carleton College with a Bachelor of Arts in political science, going on to earn a Master of Public Policy (MPP) from the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government. Now, she is the chief operating officer and director of programs for the National Hispanic Medical Association, a nonprofit organization that focuses on promoting health and wellness in the Hispanic and Latino communities in the United States. The organization works with medical societies, medical students and residents, and public and private partners to achieve its goals, which include advancing access to health care and improving health outcomes for underserved populations.

Committed to paying forward the mentorship and support that played a huge role in her career success, Ms. Malloy strives to share her experience and expertise with other burgeoning professionals in her field. She credits her success to her strong work ethic and positive attitude. Throughout her career, she has always believed in leading by example and never asked her staff to do something she would not do herself. As a gifted administrator and manager, she prides herself on knowing her colleagues, motivating others, and bringing out the best in her team. Ms. Malloy recognizes the immense value of maintaining a healthy work environment, and as such, she aims to keep things light with humor.

Prior to her current roles with the National Hispanic Medical Association, Ms. Malloy gained invaluable experience with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), where she worked for more than 20 years. From 1999 to 2011, she was the manager of AI/AN programs, after which she held the role of director of AI/AN women’s health programs from 2011 to 2022. Ms. Malloy regards her time with the organization as among her professional highlights, as the program she administered ran so efficiently that there was no need for excessive supervision and oversight. To this day, she feels blessed to have been a part of ACOG, where she was able to contribute and make a real difference. Following this experience, she accepted her role as the director of programs with the National Hispanic Medical Association. As an active member of her community, Ms. Malloy has contributed her spare time as an ESOL instructor at the Vienna Presbyterian Church since 2006, and for her commitment to service, she has been recognized with a Volunteer Award.

Ms. Malloy has remained steadfast in her dedication to professional development and lifelong learning. In 2021, she earned a certificate in diversity, equity, and inclusion, also known as DEI, in the workplace from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education. During her more than 25 years in public health, she has amassed a wealth of knowledge and experience that informs every decision she makes. Ms. Malloy is proud to have grown into a confident and assertive professional, owing this transformation to her decades of excellence and demonstrated expertise. She sets herself apart from others with her unflinching passion for her profession and notes that she has learned the power of her voice. Among the numerous aspects of her job, she most enjoys connecting with people and building relationships.

Looking ahead, Ms. Malloy plans to take some time off to travel and pursue activities that bring her joy, such as reading as well as playing volleyball and basketball. She aims to continue finding her happiness and spending more time taking care of herself while still contributing positively to her community.
