Tracy “Trang” D. Nguyen

Celebrated for more than 20 years of innovation and growth in the pharmaceutical and wellness sectors, Tracy “Trang” D. Nguyen has served as the chief executive officer and president of AQ Pharmaceuticals Inc. since 2000. Under her leadership, the company has become recognized for its commitment to integrating traditional medicine with modern scientific practices, as well as for an entrepreneurial approach to product development and international collaboration.

Ms. Nguyen has overseen the launch of several groundbreaking initiatives at AQ Pharmaceuticals. Among the most notable, she led the submission of an application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 2025 for low-level laser therapy, a treatment widely adopted in Japan for its drug-free pain relief capabilities. Under Ms. Nguyen’s guidance, this therapy was subsequently approved by the FDA for home use in a new “physical medicine” category, expanding patient access to innovative pain management solutions. Further demonstrating her commitment to novel health and wellness breakthroughs, AQ Pharmaceuticals has partnered with Japanese firms to develop advanced medical instruments, including a specialized device designed to promote hair growth.

Inspired by her travels in Europe, Ms. Nguyen has also exercised her entrepreneurial vision through clinical trials focused on traditional medicinal practices recognized by the European Medicines Agency. In one example, she allocated resources in 2024 to research natural products for medical applications. Ms. Nguyen’s team successfully developed two products: one to lower blood sugar levels for diabetes management and another derived from traditional Japanese medicine to support arterial health. Both products have met rigorous FDA standards and are now featured on the official AQ Pharmaceuticals website.

Another example of Ms. Nguyen’s mission to integrate traditional medicine with modern practices can be found in her work to cultivate fucoidan in Malaysia. This bioactive compound has potential anticancer properties. Collaborating with a Japanese scientist, Ms. Nguyen operated research facilities in both the United States and Malaysia, utilizing advanced technology to ensure high-quality production and study of fucoidan. Their efforts resulted in approval from the United Kingdom’s Food Standards Agency, affirming the product’s safety and efficacy for health applications.

Innovation remains central to Ms. Nguyen’s leadership at AQ Pharmaceuticals, as evidenced by her ongoing work on intellectual property development. As of 2026, she holds five provisional patents, including a notable patent application involving artificial intelligence in health supplements and neuroscience — a process expected to take two years for approval.

In 2026, Ms. Nguyen and AQ Pharmaceuticals launched JBAAI (Joy, Beauty and Agelessness), a wellness tracking application that leverages remote photoplethysmography technology to provide users with vital sign readings through facial scans. The app offers noninvasive monitoring of blood pressure and other health indicators without traditional equipment or blood tests, making it accessible even in remote settings.

Before venturing onto her vocational path, Ms. Nguyen set a strong academic background. She earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota in 1985. The strong foundation in science and analytical thinking provided by this education proved invaluable as Ms. Nguyen transitioned into the pharmaceutical industry upon relocating to California in 1990. She credits her success not only to her technical knowledge but also to mentors who recognized her abilities early on and encouraged her pursuit of leadership roles within the field.

Throughout her career, Ms. Nguyen has received numerous accolades recognizing her business acumen and contributions to diversity in entrepreneurship. AQ Pharmaceuticals was named among the Top 500 Asian Pacific American Owned Businesses in America by Omnikal in 2017 and received similar honors from DiversityBusiness.com in 2010 and 2011. Ms. Nguyen obtained the Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award in 2007 and was featured in the Los Angeles Business Journal’s “Women Making a Difference” series that same year. Her company was also honored as one of 100 Fast-Growing Private Companies by the Orange County Business Journal and earned the Top Asian Pacific American Owned Businesses in America Award and the Top Woman Business in California Award.

Born in Saigon, Vietnam, Ms. Nguyen is proud of her heritage and values family above all else. She is a loving mother to two sons, Jimmy Ngo and Dennis Ngo, and a devoted grandmother to five grandchildren — Jimmy Jr., Audrey, Dylan, Aiden and Maisei. Ms. Nguyen spends her leisure time reading, her favorite pastime. Her career reflects a dedication to advancing healthcare through scientific rigor, cross-cultural collaboration and an unwavering focus on innovation within the pharmaceutical industry.
