Ms. Nguyen pursued higher education at California State University, Fullerton, earning a Bachelor of Arts in business management in 2016. Her academic background and certifications as a licensed dental assistant from Pima Dental School and a licensed real estate broker provided her with a versatile skill set that she later applied across various professional fields. Her career with the Navy began in 2013, marking the beginning of a long and fruitful association. Initially serving in a general capacity, Ms. Nguyen quickly demonstrated her capabilities, earning a role as a housing management assistant by 2015. In this capacity, she oversaw the housing needs of service members with ranks E-4 and below, ensuring their eligibility for barracks housing, monitoring occupancy, and maintaining accurate reports on 14 buildings. Her responsibilities extended beyond logistical matters, as she also played a crucial role in ensuring the welfare of sailors, particularly during the COVID-19 and Mpox outbreaks, when she managed accommodation for those affected.

She oversaw 5,000 sailors, including those training to become Navy SEALs. Additionally, she owned a money transfer business that facilitated transactions between the United States, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Ms. Nguyen’s late husband, Donald Lake, played a significant role in shaping her life and career. Married for 15 years, she admired his generosity and kindness, which he displayed in many ways, such as paying a neighbor’s rent when they needed it.
