Sybil Cummin, LPC, ACS, has established a successful career in mental health, currently excelling as a licensed professional counselor and owner of Arvada Therapy Solutions PLLC, where she has been practicing since 2011. Arvada Therapy Solutions provides strength-based and collaborative counseling services to children, teens, adults, couples, and families in Arvada, Colorado. Their offerings include individual therapy, play therapy, teen counseling, family and couples counseling, group therapy, and specialized interventions like the Safe and Sound Protocol. They also offer low-cost counseling options to ensure accessibility for all clients.

Ms. Cummin’s role at Arvada Therapy Solutions PLLC encompasses various administrative responsibilities, leading her team, supervising younger clinicians, and managing a caseload of 10 to 12 clients per week. She also conducts weekly groups and engages with the community through podcasts. Her practice is well respected in the community, and many are familiar with her work. Among her areas of focus, Ms. Cummin specializes in domestic violence and coercive control, supporting surviving parents and families who have experienced abuse and are now navigating the family court system with their abusive ex-partners and family members.

Beyond her clinical practice, Ms. Cummin has served as a coach, advocate, speaker, and podcaster for Rising Beyond Power and Control since 2021. In these capacities, she provides strategies and support for individuals recovering from toxic or abusive relationships. Drawing on her expertise in domestic violence and narcissistic abuse, she offers insights to help survivors heal. In addition to releasing her podcast, Ms. Cummin fosters a supportive membership community for women navigating their recovery journeys. She is also a speaker, trainer, consultant, and author with Beyond Power and Control, a role she has held since 2019.

Laying a strong academic foundation, Ms. Cummin earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, magna cum laude, from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2002, followed by a Master of Arts in counseling psychology and counselor education from the University of Colorado Denver in 2007. She is also actively involved in civic organizations, volunteering with Domesticshelters.org and the Divorce Coalition and providing pro bono domestic violence assessments for immigrants. In light of her impressive undertakings, Ms. Cummin earned the Purple Ribbon Award in 2023 and was honored with the title of Badass Woman of Arvada from the Arvada Chamber of Commerce in 2022.

Reflecting on her path, Ms. Cummin’s passion for working with children shaped her career path. Initially pursuing physical therapy and personal training as an athlete, she discovered a deeper interest in working with minds rather than bodies. In graduate school, she trained as an eating disorder specialist at a children’s hospital but later transitioned to child protection work at Savio House. Seeking greater autonomy, Ms. Cummin founded her own practice in 2011, initially focusing on children and teens. Over time, she expanded her practice into a small group with seven employees, a contracted supervisor, and a training program for master’s level interns.

Ms. Cummin attributes her success to her belief that everything can be figured out if approached with care. Her willingness to take risks, adapt to change, and step outside her comfort zone has been crucial to her career development. She values the connections she has built, allowing her to find support and learn from those who fill in her knowledge gaps.

Born in Denver, Ms. Cummin enjoys spending time with her family, kickboxing, and playing with her two sons. She also loves the Harry Potter franchise. Looking to the future, she plans to ensure Arvada Therapy Solutions remains a thriving practice that operates independently without her direct involvement. She aims to expand awareness within the Rising Beyond advocacy space through speaking engagements and training sessions. Ms. Cummins’ long-term goal is to bring attention to the realities of gender-based and family violence and its effects on children while advocating for substantial legislative and judicial reforms to support survivors and their families.
