Suzanne B. Cichon has built a distinguished career in the insurance industry, bringing a rare combination of investigative skill, legal expertise and claims leadership to her role as Claim Director at Chubb Insurance. With 16 years of experience as a claim handler, 13 of them devoted to Director’s and Officer’s coverage, she has cultivated a deep understanding of coverage and litigation practices across the United States in a wide variety of venues.

In her current position, Ms. Cichon manages a broad scope of responsibilities. She receives and reviews new insurance claims to determine coverage, communicates directly with insured parties as well as defense and coverage counsel, evaluates matters for liability, and engages in negotiations, mediations and trials. Her role also involves continuous elevation of matters related to internal controls, ensuring that each claim is handled with precision and in alignment with the highest industry standards.

Since joining Chubb in 2009, Ms. Cichon has advanced steadily through the organization. She began as a claim assistant for handlers of Director’s and Officer’s coverage before earning promotion to claim examiner and, ultimately, Claim Director. Along the way, she has played a key role in developing financial line alliances with Chubb’s third-party partners and building internal relationships within departments handling Employment Practices and Director’s and Officer’s liability. Her contributions have extended to insureds nationwide, and she has been instrumental in facilitating monthly underwriting calls, resolving issues tied to submissions, coverage and client relations.

Before her tenure in the insurance sector, Ms. Cichon established a strong professional foundation in the legal field. She worked as a legal assistant and paralegal for various insurance defense firms, where she prepared pleadings and managed case files. Earlier in her career, she worked in law enforcement, holding top-secret security clearance while conducting background investigations for the federal government. She also clerked at a criminal court and managed a sheriff’s department office that handled process of service. These positions sharpened her investigative skills, which have proven invaluable in her transition to and success within the insurance industry.

Ms. Cichon holds two bachelor’s degrees: one in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven, earned in 1999, and another in Legal Studies from the University of Hartford, awarded in 2005. She has been an American Bar Association–approved paralegal since 2003, reflecting her longstanding commitment to professional development and legal proficiency.

Chubb recognized Ms. Cichon’s accomplishments early in her career with the SOAR Award, a testament to her exceptional contributions and upward trajectory. Rising from an assistant to a Claim Director in the prestigious Director’s and Officer’s line of business, she credits her success to her independence, determination, education, and the diversity of her professional background in law enforcement, legal work, and insurance.

Looking ahead, Ms. Cichon aspires to continue her advancement at Chubb, with the goal of progressing to assistant vice president or vice president. She is especially passionate about continuing her specialized work in complex Director’s and Officer’s coverage but is also intrigued by opportunities to expand into areas such as Kidnap, Ransom and Extortion coverage or CyberSecurity. Her investigative background remains a highly valued asset in her current role, enabling her to navigate complex coverage matters with confidence and precision while continually expanding her expertise.
