Sue Neufeld-Ellis

With 39 years of professional experience to her credit, Sue Neufeld-Ellis is an expert international speaker and teacher in mindfulness meditation and other areas, such as stress management and sexual addiction. She also does general mental health therapy with anxiety, trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), one of the first Certified Sex Addiction Therapists (CSAT), Nationally Certified Addiction Counselor-supervisor level (NCACII) and a Registered Nurse (RN). She has also been professionally mentored by Patrick Carnes, PhD. As an RN, Ms. Neufeld-Ellis has opened three behavioral health units in hospitals, including one of the first inpatient eating disorder units in the world in 1982.

Ms. Neufeld-Ellis is now available to present mindfulness meditation training for corporations, businesses, treatment centers, groups and individuals. She is also available for consultation on sexual misconduct issues and stress management training. In the media, a presenter at myriad conferences nationwide, Ms. Neufeld-Ellis was a guest on “The Dr. Pat Show” multiple times in 2007, and was interviewed on the topics of meditation and sex addiction on the “Carol the Coach Show.” Additionally, her four-hour webinar with the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP), “Mindful Self Compassion for Clinicians and Clients,” was made available to therapists internationally in January 2020.

Ms. Neufeld-Ellis has done radio shows, podcasts and webinars on these and other subjects. She also created a CD with musician Steven Halpern in 2007, titled “Serenity Through Meditation,” which potentially shifts the brain waves from beta to alpha to theta for a faster, more efficient access to a meditative state. From 1991 to 1993, she was a columnist for a monthly newspaper on relationship and sexual issues in Seattle. Ms. Neufeld-Ellis is additionally the co-author of the book “Clergy Sexual Misconduct,” and has assisted religious and spiritual communities (Christian and Buddhist) in dealing with this issue within their leadership.

Practicing meditation for 40 years and teaching for 25 years, Ms. Neufeld-Ellis is a trained teacher of Mindful Self Compassion (MSC) through the University of California San Diego and trained at the University of Washington, training therapists and clients. She also led a meditation for a group within the United Nations in 1998. As a current adjunct faculty member at IITAP, Ms. Neufeld-Ellis was also a part-time faculty member at Bellevue Community College for seven years, teaching various topics including stress management, and at Edmonds Community College, both in Washington.

Ms. Neufeld-Ellis and her husband, Jerry, took a three-year trip around the world from 1993 to 1996. When she is not traveling, she works part-time on contract at CoHear/BCS, a group practice that provides mental health and addiction services, including interventions on these issues. She studied with various teachers including Mother Teresa and a Jewish Kabbalah expert, Alan Ginsberg. Ms. Neufeld-Ellis also sees individuals and couples. CoHear also provides employee assistance programs for businesses locally and nationally, where she and the staff Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) services.
