Qing S. Duncan is a trailblazer in the specialty yarn and textile manufacturing industry, recognized for her innovative contributions to sustainable production. Since 2005, Ms. Duncan has served as the president and owner of Sun Dragon Import, Inc., transforming the company into a leader in eco-friendly textiles. Her pioneering work in developing recycled poly-organic cotton exemplifies her commitment to environmental stewardship. Notably, during the 2009 financial crisis, she collaborated with Safeco to produce recycled bags and tote bags for Coca-Cola’s Recycled Polyester Program, further solidifying her role as an innovator in sustainable solutions.

Ms. Duncan’s academic background has been instrumental in her success. She earned a Master of Science in chemistry from California State University, building on a Bachelor of Science in textile sciences and engineering from Donghua University. Her education provided a foundation in chemistry and textile engineering, enabling her to drive innovation in sustainable textile production. Inspired by her father, Zhifu Sun, a respected figure in China, Ms. Duncan has pursued her passion for combining creativity with technical expertise, meeting high expectations, and making meaningful contributions to environmental sustainability.

Before establishing Sun Dragon Import, Inc., Ms. Duncan worked as a tech manager at Swisstex California, Inc. In this role, she honed her technical expertise and gained valuable industry insights. Her work at Swisstex laid the foundation for her future endeavors in creating luxury fabrics, including silk and cashmere blends with various micromodels. Throughout her career, Ms. Duncan has distinguished herself by focusing on eco-friendly, specialized yarns rather than standard industry offerings. She maintains close relationships with overseas factories to ensure they understand her customers’ unique needs and produce products that meet high environmental and quality standards.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Duncan is deeply committed to community service. She has been the president of the Duncan Great Cause Foundation since 2017, focusing on philanthropic initiatives that benefit various causes. Additionally, she serves on the Board of Governors at Huntington Library, and the Board of Trustees at Otis College of Art and Design. Her active membership in the Rotary Club of San Marino for four years has earned her several awards, reflecting her dedication to civic engagement and community leadership.

Ms. Duncan’s accomplishments have garnered significant recognition, including her nomination for the Asian Business Award by the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2014. Her influence extends across both business and civic sectors, where she continues to make a lasting impact. In her personal life, Ms. Duncan enjoys traveling, cooking, collecting wine, reading, and engaging in the arts. She shares these passions with her spouse, Kyle Duncan, and their children, Meagan and Joshua. Ms. Duncan plans to deepen her focus on community service while embracing new adventures, balancing personal fulfillment with her continued professional success.
