Uniquely talented, Pam Sunderman has distinguished herself as the sought-after designer and owner of Pam Sunderman Design, the company she launched in 2016 in her home state, Colorado. As an entrepreneur and leader, she credits her success to “the incredible network of people” with whom she has surrounded herself, including contractors, architects, builders, and real estate professionals.
Having a well-established reputation for excellence in her work, Ms. Sunderman is perpetually grateful for the referrals she generates, driving her success. Among the litany of her professional highlights, she considers her most notable achievement as being voted Best Interior Designer in Northern Colorado by NOCO Style Magazine for three years straight, in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Ms. Sunderman’s company specializes in creating unique, curated spaces for its clients. Offering a wide array of services, Pam Sunderman Design tackles projects ranging from arranging furniture to full-service design for new construction or home renovations. Ms. Sunderman is a devoted contributor and participant in her field, maintaining her status as an allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers. She believes that inspiration can be drawn from the world around us and finds that her personal aesthetic has been heavily influenced by her travels around the globe.
Ms. Sunderman has a dual educational background, studying both interior design and communications. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in interior design from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and a Bachelor of Arts in communications from the University of Colorado. With her father’s encouragement, she originally pursued a corporate career in media relations and marketing, finding success in that path for 20 years. From 1995 to 2016, she worked for various companies, including Williams-Sonoma, Inc., where she was a project manager from 2005 to 2009. Possessing an unflinching commitment to excel in all her endeavors, she kept her passion for interior design alive by continuing her design work on the side and building word-of-mouth referrals. Ultimately deciding to moonlight no longer, Ms. Sunderman stepped away from the corporate world nearly a decade ago and has focused all her efforts on building a self-sustaining career in design.
On the administrative side of running her company, Ms. Sunderman notes that managing contractors is her most challenging responsibility. Even so, she sees Pam Sunderman Design as expanding and finding continued success. In this vein, she looks forward to further growing her brand and hopes to hire junior designers. In the meantime, aside from working in Colorado, she has now taken on projects in Georgia, Florida, California, and Oklahoma. Ms. Sunderman remains thankful for the work she gets to do and still enjoys the process of designing the spaces she envisions. To her, nothing compares to the feeling of walking into a finished space with her clients, seeing them happy, and making her ideas come to life—all of which never gets old, she says. Ms. Sunderman particularly resonates with the poetic words of William Wordsworth:
“While with an eye made quiet by the power.
Of harmony, and the deep power of joy,
We see into the life of things.”
When she is not working to satisfy her clients and create incredible yet functional living spaces, Ms. Sunderman gives back to her community as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. She also supports WomenGive, an organization providing financial support and scholarships to single mothers pursuing higher education. Through her professional experience, Ms. Sunderman has learned that effective communication is vital to the success of any project. With her technical skills and experience in public relations and marketing, she is proud of her professional development and never regrets taking the leap to start her own company. In her personal time, she loves spending time with her family and traveling.
