Martha Wydra

Martha Isabel Wydra, DNP-AGACNP, has established herself as a distinguished leader in nursing and domestic violence advocacy, with nearly a decade and a half of dedicated service. Since 2023, she has excelled as the deputy director of advocacy and mental health services at the Global Innovative Foundation for Transforming Society, where she plays a pivotal role in shaping policies and programs that address mental health and advocate for domestic violence victims. Concurrently, she has served as a critical care registered nurse charge nurse in the surgical intensive care unit at the University of Miami since 2011. In recognition of her outstanding contributions in this role, she received accolades such as the Daisy Award in 2020 and Nurse of the Year honors. 

Laying a strong educational foundation, Dr. Wydra earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Miami Dade College, where she was recognized on the dean’s list for her academic excellence. She went on to earn a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a specialization in adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner from Nova Southeastern University in 2024. During her studies, she developed an educational program aimed at training nurses and physicians to better support victims of domestic violence. 

Reflecting on her journey, Dr. Wydra’s personal experiences have deeply influenced her professional path. Having endured an abusive marriage, she founded the Wings to Freedom Foundation in 2023 to support domestic violence victims. As chief executive officer and founder, she leads initiatives that provide advocacy and essential resources to those affected. Her commitment to community service has earned her numerous awards, including the Copper and Silver Community Involvement Awards from President George Bush and the Vitas Hospice Volunteer Awards. She attributes her success to her exceptional networking abilities, which have allowed her to build valuable professional relationships and expand her impact. 

Looking ahead, Dr. Wydra is dedicated to creating meaningful change through advocacy, education, and service. She aspires to establish a shelter for domestic violence victims, advocate for stronger legal protections, and expand educational programs that equip nurses and physicians to better identify and support survivors in emergency settings. Committed to reshaping the nursing profession, she emphasizes the importance of compassion and humanity in patient care. Ultimately, her mission is to serve those in need, believing that true fulfillment comes from making a lasting difference in the lives of others.
