With a passion for inclusive education and a heart for service, Maria Paola Carrion has made a meaningful impact in early childhood education by focusing on the unique needs of children who are deaf and hard of hearing as well as students learning English as a second language. As a Montessori directress at Alexander Graham Bell Montessori School, she leads with compassion, creativity and a commitment to student growth. Her approach emphasizes hands-on, student-centered learning and supports a diverse classroom environment that encourages independence and confidence. Known for her reliability and adaptability, she designs activities that meet a wide range of learning styles and needs, helping students thrive academically and socially.

Ms. Carrion built the foundation for her career at National Louis University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree. Her academic training equipped her with a strong understanding of child development and educational theory, preparing her for the challenges and rewards of working with young learners. The comprehensive curriculum at the university provided her with critical skills in instructional planning and behavior management, all of which have been vital in her day-to-day work. Her dedication to academic excellence was formally recognized when she received an Academic Award for Excellence, reflecting her deep commitment to the field of education and her ongoing pursuit of professional growth.

Over more than a decade in the education sector, Ms. Carrion has cultivated an expertise that extends beyond traditional classroom instruction. Ms. Carrion’s dedication to service is not confined to the classroom. She is an active volunteer at The Branch Community Church in Chicago, where she contributes her time on weekends. This involvement has deepened her connection to the local community and allowed her to better understand the challenges families face outside the school setting. Through her volunteer work, she continues to build bridges between education and community support, offering resources and encouragement to those navigating difficult circumstances.

One of the most rewarding aspects of Ms. Carrion’s work has been her ability to support students who require extra assistance on their learning journeys.
