Inspired by her mother and sisters, all of whom are involved in the health field in some way, Lunese T. Lane knew from an early age that she wanted to pursue a career in health care. She embarked on her studies at the University of Florida, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in women’s studies and health professions in 2007. Not long after, she joined the UF Health Shands Hospital, an affiliated hospital of the University of Florida Health Science Center. Spending 13 years as an executive assistant and project manager, she also furthered her education during this time and achieved a Master of Arts in health administration from the University of Phoenix in 2013.
In 2021, Ms. Lane became the dialysis manager for Shands Hospital, a role which sees her responsible for three dialysis facilities: an outpatient facility, an inpatient facility and the acute care facility. In addition to addressing patient needs and ensuring that everything is running smoothly when patients come in for dialysis, she is also responsible for back-end work as well, including billing, insurance and ensuring that they have the necessary supplies stocked. Being able to do both patient care and back-end work is something that she finds incredibly rewarding. Above everything, Ms. Lane considers the most gratifying aspect of her career to be getting to see the appreciation and gratitude of their patients.
Attributing much of her success to her drive to help others, Ms. Lane also credits her early experiences of watching her mother care for people and make a difference as a nurse. She is proud of how she has advanced and grown throughout her career and that she has been afforded numerous opportunities to learn from her colleagues. Ms. Lane has continued her formal education with a leadership program at the University of Phoenix and is active in a university affiliated honor society, which has recognized her for “Excelling Achievement in the Community.” Other honors to her name include volunteer awards from the Guardian Ad Litem Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters, and several hospital leadership awards.
