A real people person, Julieanne Kohn has excelled as a travel advisor. She loves both traveling and sharing her experiences with others, so the field seemed to be the perfect fit. Ms. Kohn worked hard to achieve her goal, and was thrilled to land a position as a travel agent with American Express Co. in 1970. Her expertise quickly caught the attention of her peers and clients. They liked that she was well-traveled enough to offer suggestions based on places she has visited; that personal touch really made a big difference. Some of Ms. Kohn’s clients even came with her as she advanced through the industry. Her roles after she left American Express Co. included travel agent with Thomas Cook Inc., manager of Island Traveller, president and owner of her own company, Flying Suitcase, Inc., and travel agent with AAA of Michigan. Ms. Kohn decided to reopen Flying Suitcase, Inc., as Flying Suitcase LLC in 2015. She currently serves the company as the owner and a virtuoso travel advisor.
Ms. Kohn prepared for her endeavors by earning a Bachelor of Arts from Heidelberg College in 1968, completing postgraduate coursework at Eastern Michigan University between 1969 and 1970, and obtaining a diploma as a certified travel consultant (CTC) from The Travel Institute. She also became certified as a destination specialist and a leisure specialist.
When Ms. Kohn isn’t working, she enjoys reading, singing in choirs, and participating in church activities. She notably received the Woodward Award for the choir at St. James Episcopal Church and both the Alice Award and the Woman of the Year Award from the Episcopal Church and Woman of the St. James Episcopal Church.
