JOYCE R. GROSSMAN

Joyce GrossmanJoyce R. Grossman knew from a young age that she was going to be a doctor and spent many early childhood days playing doctor in her backyard by helping injured grasshoppers. After earning a Bachelor of Science from Brooklyn College and a Master of Science in microbiology and chemistry from Indiana University Bloomington, she joined Weill Cornell Medicine at Cornell University, where she obtained a Master of Science in genetics in 1980, and SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, ultimately achieving her Doctor of Medicine in 1986. After completing residencies in internal medicine and pediatrics at Kings County Hospital Center, Dr. Grossman began her career as an adjunct professor for the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn in 1994, a position she holds to this day.

Alongside her teaching, Dr. Grossman served as an attending physician for a range of Brooklyn hospitals in the mid-late 1990s, including Coney Island Hospital, the New York Hospital Network and Beth Israel Medical Center. In 1998, she made a transition into the field of health insurance as the associate medical director for Cigna of New York, where she remained until 2000, subsequently serving as the regional chief executive officer and medical director for Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield/Anthem from 2000 to 2016. In 2016, Dr. Grossman became the medical director for Globex Health, a position in which she draws on her more than 20 years of experience managing Medicare guidelines.

Dr. Grossman continuously strives to keep abreast of all the latest developments in the medical field through reading medical journals and maintaining professional membership with the American Medical Association, the National Academy for the Advancement of Science, the New York Academy of Science and the New York Biotechnology Association. In addition, she is an accomplished author in her own right, notably providing the chapter “Pediatric Aspects of Tuberculosis” for the 1995 book, “Tuberculosis.” Looking toward the future, Dr. Grossman hopes to continue her work with Globex Health and help bring doctors to developing nations to provide better health care to vulnerable populations around the globe.

Having accomplished much over the course of her career, Dr. Grossman has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades. Her excellence has garnered her recognition as a Marquis Who’s Who Top Professional and with the prestigious Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Furthermore, she has been elected as a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Above these awards, Dr. Grossman considers her most notable achievements to be the patents she holds for gene therapy, antibiotics and chemotherapeutic agents.
