Jessica L. Artz, SPHR, is a human resources professional celebrating more than 15 years of business development through creative and efficient personnel management. Her interest in the field began after a summer job search brought her to a local staffing agency, who immediately recognized her interpersonal skills and placed her in a short-term position as a recruiter. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Wheeling University in 2003, Ms. Artz found work as a health care industry recruiter for Independence Air & NRI Healthcare. She excelled at the position and after only a few months, she was offered the opportunity to assume leadership and development of an employee team.
In 2005, Ms. Artz joined Computer Science Corporation as a principal consultant and operations manager for their 200-employee federal consulting practice. In the late 2000s, she returned to school, completing a Master of Arts in human resources management through Marymount University in 2011. By the time of her departure from Computer Science Corporation in 2012, she had risen to the role of international human resources manager, administering all human resources functions for the company’s international staff of more than 1,300. Ms. Artz would spend the next four years as the director of human resources for General Dynamics Information Technology, implementing major strategic planning and employee training programs with a budget of more than $1 million.
Ms. Artz has excelled in her current role as the senior vice president of human resources and administration for GTL (gtl.net) since 2016. When she arrived at GTL, she was tasked with building employee trust in the human resources role through careful strategic planning to create value and transparency. Under her leadership, the company initiated an executive restructuring plan, re-evaluated employee benefits plans, and overhauled the external talent acquisitions and leadership development processes, saving more than $500,000 annually. Ms. Artz considers her work in developing GTL’s Human Resources Department into a supportive and meaningful piece of the organization to be one of her greatest accomplishments, and the culmination of her professional skills thus far. She is also proud to have held an executive position with a company, while being a mother to two young boys and a wife to her husband.
Dedicated to staying on the cutting edge of best practices, Ms. Artz is a certified senior professional in human resources and strategic human resources business partner, and holds continuing education credentials including a Leadership Excellence and Executive Coaching Certificate from the Academy of Leadership. Among other honors, she was presented with General Dynamics’ 2016 Cohort’s Choice Award for Most Influential Leader, and she remains an active member of the World of Work and Compensation Association. Likewise, she maintains professional alignment with the Society of Human Resources Management. Her philanthropic efforts include donating to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which is an organization that aims to honor a New York-based firefighter who lost his life saving other during the 9/11 attacks.
Ms. Artz lives by the dictum to “never give up, persevere,” and attributes her success to her willingness to learn, constant desire to improve and motivation to provide the best possible result for her team. Within five years, she looks forward to beginning a transition to an executive leadership role with an eye on transferring her skills to a chief operations officer position, and to spending more time with her husband and two sons.
