Bolstered by nearly 10 years of professional experience, Jennifer A. Vazquez is an emerging leader in the fields of biomedicine and engineering. Since 2022, she has made strides as an assistant unit director at Crothall Healthcare. Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, Crothall Healthcare services hospitals and other medical facilities through a keen focus on technology management, patient observation and transportation, and clinical engineering. Specializing in biomedical engineering technology, Ms. Vazquez is responsible for repairing and maintaining medical equipment and machinery, monitoring patients, and managing a team of approximately 12 employees. Prior to her current appointment, she joined Crothall Healthcare in 2020 as a biomedical equipment technician, serving in this capacity for two years.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Vazquez was employed by Lakeland Regional Health as a clinical engineer II in 2020 and US Med-Equip as a biomedical engineer lead from 2019 to 2020. She first joined Universal Hospital Services (now known as Agiliti Health, Inc.) in 2014 as a biomedical technician intern, serving in this position until 2015, when she became a biomedical technician I. Ms. Vazquez remained in this role until 2018, at which point she served as a biomedical technician II for one year until 2019. Before joining the field of biomedical engineering, she was a mathematics tutor at Ridge Community High School with Polk County Public Schools between 2011 and 2012 and was a student worker at her alma mater, DeVry University, from 2012 to 2015.
To prepare for her vocational journey, Ms. Vazquez pursued a formal education at DeVry, where she was named to the dean’s list and received a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering technology in 2017. Thereafter, she received an HTM leadership online certificate from AAMI University in 2018 and a certificate of completion in applied project management from the University of Central Florida in 2019. Possessing a Lean Six Sigma certification, Ms. Vazquez is certified in CPR through the American Heart Association Inc. and received a CompTIA ITF+ certification in 2021.
During high school, Ms. Vazquez endeavored to enter the field of medicine. However, she felt drawn more to engineering than to health care. After a teacher informed her of biomedical engineering, Ms. Vazquez sought to join the industry following her high school graduation. Since then, she has thrived in her field, accruing several accolades and recognitions in light of her engineering technology and management prowess. To this end, she has also maintained affiliations with several organizations, including the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, the Association for Health Care Resource & Materials Management, the Biomedical Engineering Society, and the Ohio Healthcare Technology Management Association, among others.
In celebration of her achievements, Ms. Vazquez has been honored on many occasions, having most recently been featured in the 40 Under 40 Up-and-Coming Young Professionals by TechNation Magazine in 2022. Previously, she was recognized as the BMET of the Year for the State of Florida and received two Spotlight Awards from Agiliti Health Inc. in 2016 and 2018. Likewise, Ms. Vazquez was voted Most Improved Among Peers by Agiliti Health in 2017. Although she has experienced several professional highlights, she cites that receiving her awards has been among the most memorable moments of her career. She also enjoys witnessing her colleagues and other professionals growing in their fields and becoming more comfortable with their roles.
For her success, Ms. Vazquez credits her excellent customer service skills and astute attention to detail. As such, during her career, she has learned the significance of being forthcoming and honest with clients as well as the importance of continuous education and training. Residing in Davenport, Florida, she often travels to attend conferences to supplement her knowledge of and exposure to the field. In the coming years, Ms. Vazquez aims to expand the scope of her services and continue growing in the biomedical engineering industry.
