Jennifer A. Campbell is a seasoned expert in her field and writer with a rich background. Holding a postgraduate diploma in primate conservation from Oxford Brookes University and a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and anthropology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, her unique educational foundation significantly influenced her approach to storytelling and character development in the gaming industry. In 2022, Ms. Campbell joined Sledgehammer Games, a division of Activision Publishing Inc., as a senior narrative designer, collaborating closely with level designers to create compelling character dialogues, further refining her prowess in gaming narratives, storytelling, character creation, and world creation. Her superlative work involves blending narrative and gameplay, ensuring that the stories she crafts resonate well with players.

Ms. Campbell’s career began as a quality assurance tester at Volition in Champaign, Illinois. Her diligence and talent quickly propelled her to the role of associate quality assurance, or QA, analyst II, followed by a narrative designer and writer position at Deep Silver Volition. During nearly a decade with the company, she honed her skills in crafting engaging narratives, eventually becoming the first female staff writer at the firm, a milestone and a significant achievement. Her work at Volition earned her a nomination for writing in comedy from the National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers in 2018.

Ms. Campbell credits her success to her tenacity and determination. She believes that confidence and adaptability are crucial in the competitive gaming industry. Her journey into game writing was fueled by a lifelong fascination with storytelling and an academic pursuit that led her from primate conservation to the creative environment of Deep Silver Volition. Outside of her professional achievements, Ms. Campbell is deeply involved in her community. She has volunteered at The Global Game Jam and served as a guest speaker for Girls Make Games and Girls Who Code, working to inspire the next generation of game designers and developers.

Pondering the future, Ms. Campbell envisions herself continuing to write for video games while aspiring to publish books in her spare time. She is passionate about creating a game that seamlessly integrates narrative and gameplay, a goal she is determined to achieve. In her personal time, Ms. Campbell enjoys horseback riding, bikejoring, gardening, and birdwatching – activities that reflect her love for the outdoors and the natural world.
