Grace E. Carr, MHA, BS, LRT (CT) (M) (R) has amassed more than two decades of experience in health care, specializing in computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, radiology, new care medicine, cardiology, and nuclear medicine. She currently excels as a radiology manager at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where she has served since 2018. In this role, she manages technologists in the imaging segment across four hospital departments and is responsible for overseeing operations, scheduling, patient interactions, and patient access, as well as controlling budgets and making critical managerial decisions regarding staffing, finances, and equipment.

Ms. Carr’s experience also includes serving as radiology technical manager and PACS administrator at Interfaith Medical Center from 2012 to 2017. During her tenure, she achieved a significant milestone by advocating for the purchase of a new CAT scanner for the emergency department during the COVID-19 pandemic. This decision enhanced patient care by increasing the hospital’s capacity to serve more patients in the community.

From 2011 to 2012, Ms. Carr served as a clinical coordinator at Harlem Hospital Center’s School of Radiologic Technology, where she was responsible for coordinating clinical education and ensuring students received comprehensive training in radiologic technology. She also worked as a special procedure technologist at Metropolitan Hospital from 2005 to 2008.

Ms. Carr laid a solid educational foundation, earning an associate degree in radiologic technology and science-radiography from City Tech, CUNY in 2004, followed by a bachelor’s degree in medical imaging services from Grand Canyon University in 2012. She went on to earn a master’s degree in health care administration and management from Ashford University, now University of Arizona Global Campus, in 2020. Continuing to build on her expertise, she is currently pursuing a PhD in health administration at Capella University.  Additionally, she has been an active member of the Association for Medical Imaging Management since 2023 and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists since 2004.

Reflecting on her path, Ms. Carr initially considered becoming a medical doctor. Originally from the Caribbean, she completed her education in Cuba before moving to the United States. Due to the embargo between the two countries, she chose not to restart her medical education and instead pursued a career in radiology, which opened new opportunities for her. Throughout her career, she has fostered meaningful professional relationships and developed innovative strategies within the health care industry. She believes that her ability to think outside the box and embrace challenges has set her apart, and by managing facilities and interacting with upper leadership, she has gained invaluable insight into health care administration, finance, and operations.

Ms. Carr notes that leadership approach is rooted in a balance of technical expertise and compassionate management. She prioritizes an open-door policy, fostering an environment where team members feel heard and valued. By empathizing with her staff and understanding their challenges, she integrates their perspectives into decision-making. She combines this insight with her managerial skills to create a hybrid approach. She believes that this method allows her to maintain operational efficiency while also supporting and empowering her team.

Ms. Carr attributes her success to her late father, who instilled in her the importance of education and values that have guided her throughout her career. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys traveling to warm destinations with beautiful beaches alongside her spouse and their three children. Looking to the future, she aspires to advance to a senior leadership role, such as director, chief operating officer, or vice president of operations, either at her current facility or another organization. Through these roles, she aims to implement meaningful changes that benefit imaging technologists and expand her impact beyond her team, influencing the entire department and health care operations at a strategic level.
