Colleen Roman, DVM, is an associate veterinarian at All Creatures Animal Hospital in Dunwoody, Georgia, where her practice specializes in exotic animal care. Her passion for animals and animal care began as a child after rescuing an injured wild mouse, and she was dedicated to pursuing a career in animal sciences. She attended Georgia College & State University, graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in biology, and began her veterinary training at Gwinnett Technical College, completing an Associate of Science to become a veterinary technician in 2011.
An outstanding student, Dr. Roman was the recipient of a Georgia Veterinary Medical Association scholarship and a member of the Tri-Beta Biology Honors Society during her time in school. She completed her clinical rotations as a registered veterinary technician at BluePearl Veterinary Partners and Dekalb Animal Hospital the same year, followed by a professional externship at Zoo Atlanta. After completing pre-professional rotations and earning her veterinary technician license, Dr. Roman joined the staff at All Creatures Animal Hospital as a registered veterinary technician.
Dr. Roman continued to focus on clinical work at All Creatures Animal Hospital until 2015, when she joined the faculty of the University of Georgia’s teaching hospital dermatology program. She continued to teach until 2017, when she enrolled at the University of Georgia as a veterinary medicine student and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2021. She was awarded her veterinary license by the state of Georgia the same year and returned to All Creatures Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian, where she continues to treat patients and build her practice. As an exotic animal specialist, Dr. Roman provides routine medical examinations and client education in addition to managing emergency treatments and surgical procedures on a variety of species. She is well-known in the community for being one of the only local medical providers to treat chickens and is pursuing additional professional development to be able to better treat avian, reptile, and amphibian patients in the future.
As a part of her commitment to her patients and practice, Dr. Roman holds more than a dozen specialty and continuing education credentials, including Fear Free certification for dogs, cats, and birds; human-animal bond development training; and both canine and feline CPR and advanced life support certification. She has contributed to a veterinary medicine textbook on exotic animal practice and is a member of the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and the Association of Reptilian and Amphibian Veterinarians. Dr. Roman looks forward to becoming board-certified in exotic small mammal veterinary practice within the next five years and is proud to bring her background in veterinary dermatology to her work at All Creatures Animal Hospital.
Outside her professional practice, Dr. Roman is active in the community as a volunteer with Not One More Vet, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness and providing mental health care support to veterinary and animal care practitioners throughout their careers. She has previously donated her time and expertise as an animal caretaker for the Atlanta Wild Animal Rescue Effort and the Animal Rescue Foundation of Midgeville, Georgia. She remains passionate about her work and the potential of veterinary medicine to touch the lives of animals, caretakers, and the community at large, and considers her practice to be her core. She prides herself on building connections with patients, other providers, and technical support staff, and strives to create a foundation of trust and mutual growth with others in the field. When she is not working, Dr. Roman enjoys spending time with her husband and their many pets and is an avid traveler who tries to ring in each New Year in a brand new location.
