Carrie Hoffman, JD, has excelled as a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP since 1993, where she specializes in the field of labor and employment law. Her specific areas of focus include wage and hour issues; workplace safety; workplace harassment; union avoidance and election campaigns; leaves of absence; hiring, termination, and severance policies and procedures; and litigation avoidance. Defending clients in employment litigation at the federal and state levels, she also represents employers in investigations and audits by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Texas Workforce Commission, the National Labor Relations Board and the Department of Labor.
First earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, magna cum laude, from Baylor University in 1990, Ms. Hoffman was drawn to the field of law out of a desire to be able to provide advice and counsel to others. She then joined the School of Law at the University of Texas at Austin, where she obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with honors, in 1993. Licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas that same year, she was subsequently admitted before the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas, the District of Arizona, and the District of Colorado. She was also admitted before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Attributing much of her success to working long hours and having had great mentors through the years, Ms. Hoffman also credits her perseverance in finding answers for helping her to achieve her goals. A member of the State Bar of Texas, she has also been board certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In order to keep abreast of new developments in her field, she has further maintained professional affiliation with the Dallas Bar Association and the Wage & Hour Defense Institute.
Alongside her primary career responsibilities, Ms. Hoffman has made an effort to give back to her community as well. A graduate of both Leadership Dallas through the Dallas Regional Chamber and the Leadership Arts Institute, she has also been very involved with Big Thought, an organization that strives to provide opportunities for children from marginalized communities, serving at various times as the director and chair, and on the human resource committee, the operations committee and the legal and risk management committee. In addition, she previously spent time as the co-chair of the Parish Episcopal School’s spring picnic and the secretary of the parent teacher organization at the JCC Preschool.
For excellence in her career, Ms. Hoffman has been recognized as one the Best Lawyers in America since 2013. Named among the Best Lawyers in Dallas by D Magazine in 2016 and 2017, she had previously been honored among the Best Lawyers Under 40 in Dallas by the magazine in 2004. From 2003 to 2017, she was additionally listed as a Texas Super Lawyer, and, in 2017, she was presented with the Dallas Top 50 Women Lawyers Award by the Texas Diversity Council. With a perfect 5.0 rating, Ms. Hoffman is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell.
Having achieved much over the years, Ms. Hoffman finds the most rewarding part of her work to be having clients that come back to work with her again and again. Above everything, however, she considers the highlight of her life to be successfully raising her two wonderful daughters, Samantha and Margaret, alongside her husband, Thomas. Deeply grateful for the mentorship she received over the course of her career, she takes pride in giving back as a mentor herself and would advise young and aspiring professionals to always to the best they can in everything that they do.
