Initially considering a career in business management, Andrea Darnell Hoke, DDS, began her time in higher education with coursework toward an undergraduate degree in business. However, during this time, she discovered that business wasn’t really where her passions lay, and she felt that life was too short to settle for a degree that she wasn’t going to be satisfied with. Drawing on the many positive experiences she had going to the dentist growing up, Dr. Hoke joined the School of Dentistry at West Virginia University and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2016.
Holding considerable expertise in general dentistry, as well as in Botox and Derma fillers, Dr. Hoke began her career in 2017, as a dentist with both James Butler Dentistry and her own practice, Hoke Family Dentistry, PLLC. She remained with James Butler Dentistry until 2019 and today she focuses exclusively on growing her own practice. Located in Narrows, Virginia, Hoke Family Dentistry strives to be an inclusive medical environment and offers a wide range of dental services to patients in the area. Dr. Hoke herself is responsible for most all procedures, except for root canals.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Hoke’s major goal is to grow her practice. She considers one of the greatest highlights of her career to be the fact that she was able to open a brand new practice location during the COVID-19 pandemic and keep the business going to this day. Attributing much of her success to the support she has received from her family and friends, she also credits her own drive to accomplish her goals, making a name for herself as someone who is down to earth, detail oriented and who cares deeply about her patients. Throughout her career, Dr. Hoke has been continually motivated by her desire to serve and help the people in her community and is committed to getting to know everyone in her practice, both patients and staff.
Dr. Hoke takes pride in treating each of her patients as if they are family, noting that her favorite aspect of her job is the relationships that she develops with her patients. In addition to the dental services she provides, she is also proud to have been able to help patients on an individual basis with things like helping them locate physicians, because she recognizes the importance of overall body health beyond just oral health. Furthermore, she strives to stay on top of new and ongoing developments in the field of dentistry through completing continuing education courses, attending seminars, and meeting with mentors in the fields of dentistry and health care. Dr. Hoke also maintains professional affiliation with such industry organizations as the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Seattle Study Club and Delta Sigma Delta-An International Dental Fraternity.
For her excellence, Dr. Hoke has received a number of glowing reviews and testimonials from patients who have visited her practice, which is truly a testament to her expertise, skill and compassion. She was notably recognized with the Judge’s Choice Award at the Jumpstart Giles Business Plan Competition in 2020. An accomplished Marquis listee, she has been featured in the Marquis Who’s Who Millennium Magazine, named a Marquis Who’s Who Top Professional and recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Best Of in dentistry. Dr. Hoke would advise young and aspiring professionals, particularly women, to hold your ground and don’t let anyone tell you that you aren’t capable of excelling in the field of dentistry.
Dr. Hoke has always lived her life by the motto, “Treat others how you want to be treated: with respect and kindness.” In her personal life, she greatly enjoys spending time with her family and friends and she hopes to start a family of her own in the coming years. Additionally, Dr. Hoke has long had a love of traveling as well.
