Holding considerable expertise in hospice nursing, Adrienne L. Donaldson-Steverson has excelled as a member of the nursing faculty at Dallas College since 2012 and full-time faculty at the El Centro campus, where she had previously served as adjunct faculty, since 2011. She also served as adjunct faculty at Kaplan University from 2007 to 2015 and at Texas Woman’s University from 2010 to 2011, as well as full-time faculty at Collin College from 2007 to 2012. In addition to her teaching endeavors, she served as a hospice nurse with Heart to Heart Hospice in Irving, Texas, from 2010 to 2015 and was a weekend triage nurse and on-call case manager for Faith Hospice Care from 2007 to 2008.
Very active with the colleges she has taught at, Ms. Donaldson-Steverson is presently a level four coordinator and a member of the Texas concept base curriculum committee for the El Centro campus of Dallas College, having previously been an ACEN coordinator, a QEP representative and an EKG certification instructor for the college. During her time with Collin College, she served in a variety of roles, including as a level four coordinator, a liaison for the faculty council and the ACC, and on numerous committees. Some of these committees included the CPC service learning committee, the OAB committee and core curriculum committee of the health sciences and emergency services division, the nursing testing committee, the nursing student affairs committee, the nurse camp committee, the health fair committee and the faculty search committee.
In order to keep abreast of developments in her field, Ms. Donaldson-Steverson has maintained affiliation with a number of professional organizations, including the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses Insitute Task Force, the Organization for Associate Degree Nursing, the National League of Nursing, the American Holistic Nurses Association, the Hospital and Palliative Nurses Association and the National Black MBA Association. She was previously involved with the Collin Student Nurse Association as the faculty adviser and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing as a presenter at the society’s biannual convention. Furthermore, she has been involved with the Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Phi Theta Kappa and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for many years.
Ms. Donaldson-Steverson has been very active in her community as well. She served as the chair of the board for the North Dallas Suburban Foundation for Life Development and Community Involvement from 2015 to 2017, and was twice in the role of vice chair of development from 2010 to 2012 and 2014 to 2015. From 2012 to 2014, she served the foundation as the vice chair of community affairs. Since 2019, she has been the national treasurer and Dallas chapter president of the Continental Society, having earlier spent time as the Dallas chapter treasurer and the corresponding secretary.
Inspired to a career in health care out of a desire to help others, Ms. Donaldson-Steverson earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing, with a minor in human nutrition, from Youngstown State University in 1990. She subsequently sought graduate studies in nursing at the University of Michigan, where she completed a Rackham fellowship in 1994. Since 1990, she has received licensure as a registered nurse in the states of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas, and obtained a Master of Business Administration from Youngstown State University in 2003. Having received numerous other certifications in emergency medicine and medical counseling, Ms. Donaldson-Steverson is presently working toward a Doctor of Philosophy in public service leadership and inference health administration at Capella University.
For excellence in her career, Ms. Donaldson-Steverson has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades. She was presented with two grants from the Ohio State University, a minority affairs research grant and a human resources research grant, and one from the Center for the Education of Women at the University of Michigan. The University of Michigan also presented her with their Professional Nurse Traineeship Award for her excellence during her studies there.
