Abygail T. Elizondo has built a career defined by vision, perseverance, and a deep commitment to empowering others, transforming a small, independent insurance practice into a trusted leader serving communities across South Texas. As chief executive officer and owner of Elizondo Insurance Services, she has dedicated her professional life to helping individuals and families navigate complex health care and financial decisions with confidence. Through her leadership, the agency has grown from a one-person operation into a highly respected firm known for its integrity, innovation and focus on client care. 

Ms. Elizondo’s educational foundation laid the groundwork for her success in both health care and insurance. She pursued coursework at Presbyterian Pan American School in Kingsville and at The University of Texas–Pan American, now The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. She also completed nursing coursework that provided essential knowledge for her early work in health care administration. In addition, she holds a life and health insurance license, a credential that has strengthened her expertise and credibility within the insurance sector.  

Ms. Elizondo’s leadership and community impact have been widely recognized. She has received numerous awards at the local, state, and national levels, including Small Business Person of the Year from the U.S. Small Business Administration for the Lower Rio Grande Valley District and the Mary G. Moad Ethics Award from The Better Business Bureau. Major insurance carriers such as Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Valley Baptist Health Plans, Global America Financial, Humana, and Cigna have also honored her for outstanding performance and production. Additionally, she has received recognition from church organizations, including an Area Coordinator Award for her contributions to youth mentorship. Her professional involvement extends to organizations including the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, McAllen Chamber of Commerce, Harlingen Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas, and The Better Business Bureau of South Texas. 

As chief executive officer, Ms. Elizondo oversees the strategic vision of her agency while remaining deeply engaged in day-to-day operations. She mentors and supports her team, builds community partnerships, and ensures clients receive comprehensive support ranging from Medicare guidance to assistance with Medicaid, SNAP and Extra Help programs. Her leadership extends beyond client services, encompassing marketing efforts, retention initiatives and outreach events. One of her most ambitious projects, the development of the Elizondo Business Plaza, represents a significant milestone in the agency’s growth and its impact on the region.  

Ms. Elizondo began her professional journey in the health care field as an ICD-9 coder, where she managed insurance claims and developed a deep understanding of health care systems and processes. Encouraged by a friend who recognized her talent for connecting with people, she transitioned into insurance brokerage. With determination and self-taught expertise, she built her business from the ground up, establishing a service model rooted in ethics, transparency and empowerment. 

Outside of her professional endeavors, Ms. Elizondo is deeply committed to community service. She has served as director at a local food bank through her church for more than a decade, leading programs that address food insecurity and promote wellness. Her outreach extends to cooking classes, financial literacy workshops, women’s health seminars, and youth mentorship programs, including life skills training for young people through Pathfinder Club under the General Conference Corporation of Seventh-day Adventists. She is also an active volunteer in local schools and participates in mission work, reflecting her lifelong dedication to service and education. 

Looking to the future, Ms. Elizondo plans to expand her agency’s reach by opening additional full-service offices in neighboring cities such as McAllen while continuing to mentor new entrepreneurs and agents. A key part of her mission is protecting seniors from fraud through educational initiatives, including free Medicare 101 seminars and outreach programs that empower individuals with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions.
