MARGOT L. JORDAN

Holding considerable expertise in billing, financial reporting, policy and procedure, Margot L. Jordan began her career with the Eastman Kodak Company before joining Park N’ Fly as an accountant in 1997. While attending Georgia State University, she furthered her career, serving as a consultant for the Morehouse School of Medicine from 1998 to 2000 and as an accountant for the Philly Franchising Company from 1999 to 2001. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 2000 and joined Recovery Consultants of Atlanta that same year, a role she held until 2003. From 2002 to 2004, she also served as an accountant for the American Housing Preservation Corporation. Concurrently, Ms. Jordan was both a senior staff accountant with the Professional Design Group and the treasurer for the Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scout Pack 741 from 2001 to 2005.

Ms. Jordan subsequently went on to become a senior staff accountant with Long Engineering from 2005 to 2008 and held the same position with Jova/Daniels/Busby Inc. from 2008 to 2009. In 2009, she joined Blair Services as a senior accountant and Blair-Jordan Associates as a controller, remaining with both companies until 2010 and 2011, respectively. She also spent time as a controller with R.A. Smith Asphalt Paving Contractors, Inc. from 2011 to 2012. Today, Ms. Jordan excels as a financial controller for Stewart Mohr Designs, Inc., a residential design firm, where she has been since 2010. Her various duties with the company include product ordering, payment and invoicing, financial reports, sales tax, company registration and licensing, payroll, and health insurance benefits, and she has even assisted the owner with some of their personal finances.

Attributing much of her success to her perseverance in the face of numerous adversities, Ms. Jordan also credits her father, a military serviceman, who instilled in her a strong sense of discipline and a good work ethic. She notes how important it is to develop good relationships with other professionals in your field, emphasizing that it has been her relationships with colleagues in the vendor and client sides of the industry that have allowed her to develop and grow throughout her career. Taking her skills even further, she joined the University of Phoenix, where she graduated, cum laude, with a Master of Business Administration in 2014. Ms. Jordan has made a name for herself as someone who carries herself very professionally while bringing a unique, jazzy flair to how she dresses in the office.

Active in her community as well, Ms. Jordan has been the treasurer for her local Kiwanis Club since 1994 and a notary public for Cobb County, Georgia, since 2000. Since 2012, she has been closely involved with Making a Way Housing, Inc. as both the treasurer and a member of the board of directors, work that she considers to be the highlight of her career thus far. In order to keep abreast of new developments in her field, she maintains professional membership with the Design Information Group, which she was invited to join to help resolve some internal issues. Ms. Jordan felt very honored that they thought she would be a good candidate for the role.

Proud to have achieved her master’s degree at over 50 years of age, Ms. Jordan is deeply grateful to Susan Scott, who was instrumental in her return to higher education at an older age while she was also working and helping to raise her grandson. To young and aspiring professionals, she would advise that it is important to study your craft at multiple levels. You have to dig beneath the surface level of information. Emphasizing that “actions speak louder than words,” Ms. Jordan feels strongly that going the extra mile is always worth it, because people notice when you put in the effort.

For her excellence, Ms. Jordan has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades. In 2019, she was recognized with an award from Making a Way Housing as well as presented with a Community Service Award from the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center. She considers her favorite aspect of her career to be getting to see how pleased clients are with the outcome of their work, noting that even she was amazed when her team came in to design her new home when she moved. Ms. Jordan truly loves her workplace and feels like it is the perfect job after many years spent working in a corporate setting.
