Active in the nonprofit field for more than 35 years, Sharon L. Chambers-Gordon attended George Mason University in 1995 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Bloomington in 1997. She concluded her formal studies at the University of Alabama, graduating with a master’s degree in communication and organizational development in 2000. She worked at the University of Alabama as the director for the GEARUP program for 2 years, and in 2002 she joined the University of Puget Sound as the director of fellowships and scholarships and the staff liaison for Courageous Conversations, positions she held until 2016.
Since 2016, Ms. Chambers-Gordon has been affiliated with Windermere Real Estate as a real estate broker. Currently working with Windemere Abode Lakewood, she has crafted her own solo practice at LiveLoveTacoma.com. With her focus in residential real estate, she has been recognized for her excellence locally and nationally and featured in Realtor Magazine as well as being named a Real Estate Newsmaker by RISMedia. In 2020 she received the Community Service Award from her local realtor association. To support her work in real estate, Ms. Chambers-Gordon is an active member of the Washington Realtors, the Women’s Council of Realtors, the Tacoma Pierce County Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.
Holding considerable expertise in community involvement, nonprofit management and mentorship, Ms. Chambers-Gordon credits much of her dedication to give back to her community to the early influence of her mother, Mary. In 2017, she founded Raising Girls, an organization that provides hygiene products to young people in western Washington state, and she continues to excel there as the chief executive officer. She also spent time as the vice president of the Greater Metro Parks Foundation from 2010 to 2019 and has been involved as a mentor with Palmer Scholars and a board member and member of the giving circle of Hilltop Artists since 2014.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Chambers-Gordon’s goal is to continue her real estate business as well as grow Raising Girls so that it can operate on a national scale. She hopes to increase their ability to combat the effects of poverty on girls’ access to basic needs and how that impacts their education, noting that many girls from poor families end up missing school because they don’t have the necessary menstrual products. Having worked as a community advocate for young people for over three decades, Ms. Chambers-Gordon looks forward to continuing to raise awareness and being a voice for change.
