Earning an Associate of Business from Normandale Community College in 1991, Vonna David spent the first 17 years of her professional life in the airline industry. She started working with Republic Airlines, which merged with Northwest Airlines and ultimately became Delta Airlines Inc., between 1983 and 2000. After meeting a friend from San Francisco, California, who was active in the local real estate scene, she was inspired to make a career switch, and her first position in the field was as his assistant. Gaining experience, she eventually achieved her own real estate license and certification as a notary public. From 2017 to 2018, she served as a real estate agent for RE/MAX Advantage Plus before becoming a licensed realtor with the Realty Group from 2018 to 2019.
Ms. David went on to serve as an acquisition and disposition manager in the purchase and selling of homes with Midwest Homes in St. Louis Park, Minnesota from 2019 to 2022. Today, she holds considerable expertise in residential real estate and has excelled as a realtor with eXp Realty since 2022. Since then, she has started her own team, The Vonna Group, mentoring agents who come on board to the brokerage, and works as an instructor with an accredited educational school, training real estate agents that are just starting in the industry. Setting yearly goals for herself, she attributes much of her success to her dedication to following through on her promises and actions. She has grown considerably over the course of her career, and she notes that real estate is a field that requires you to be open to continued learning and growth, because not only are no two transactions the same, but realtors need to be able to keep up with changes in relevant state laws and regulations.
Motivated to help others, Ms. David has made a name for herself as an incredibly loyal professional, giving each client her full attention, and, as a result, has had several clients stay in touch and become good friends following the conclusion of their transactions. She particularly enjoys working with first-time homebuyers who have just gotten married and are embarking on the adventure of establishing a life together. A particularly memorable moment occurred in January 2022 when a woman reached out about a listing that was already under contract. Ms. David quickly realized that this woman was trying to escape from a dangerous situation and took it upon herself to find the woman a home and close the transaction as fast as she could. She also helped the woman acquire the various items she needed to restart her life.
Looking toward the future, Ms. David is focusing on the growth and mentorship of her team. She finds training people very rewarding and is looking forward to the opportunities for mentoring and training others that having her own team will provide. In particular, she has always placed emphasis on supporting other women with their businesses, especially in male-dominated industries like real estate. Recently, she has cut down the number of transactions she takes on, which allows her more personal time to spend with her family and even out her work-life balance. In order to keep abreast of developments in her field, Ms. David is affiliated with the National Association of Realtors, the Minneapolis Association of Realtors and the Women Investors Network.
Having accomplished much over the course of her career, Ms. David still believes that her favorite part of her career is her interactions with her clients. Each client is different and requires a unique approach, and she is grateful for the many clients who have become her friends and who have been the source of referrals. She notes that referrals are an incredible compliment because they emphasize that a person trusted you enough to recommend you to someone else. In recognition of her achievements, she was presented with the Super Real Estate Agent Award by Twin Cities Business and Mpls.St.Paul Magazine in 2021 and 2022. Ms. David also was previously named a Top 10 Agent in the state of Minnesota.
Outside of her career, Ms. David believes strongly in giving back to her community. She volunteers with a variety of community organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Feed My Starving Children, Second Harvest Foodbank, and Bridging, which provides furniture and clothing to people trying to start their lives anew after various catastrophes. Additionally, she donates her support to Cookie Cart, a nonprofit bakery that helps young adults learn skills to help them enter the job market. Happily married, Ms. David is the proud mother to four stepchildren and grandmother to four step-grandchildren.
