Samone Lynn Stroman is an educator and school administrator celebrating nearly 15 years in her current role as the parent and labor relations coordinator for Brooklyn Public Schools PS328, the Phyllis Wheatley School. A graduate of Kingsborough Community College, Ms. Stroman holds an associate’s degree and later continued her education at Cornell University, where she completed a certificate in labor relations. Passionate about engaging families in schools, she is dedicated to helping create space for parents, guardians, and the community to have a stake in the educational process. She first joined the New York City Department of Education in 1996 as a paraprofessional, providing instructional support and student services at the school level before transitioning into teaching.
Ms. Stroman spent 11 years at the classroom level before accepting her current position as PS328’s parent and labor relations coordinator in 2007. Since then, she has focused on working alongside the school principal and administration team on behalf of parents, the Parent-Teacher Association, and the area Community Educational Council to make adjustments and provide appropriate educational services to students at PS328. Drawing on her experience as an educator, as well as her background in human resources and nonprofit management, Ms. Stroman is a mediator and advocate for parents and students to ensure that all learners have access to the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.
In honor of her work on behalf of the Brooklyn Public Schools community, Ms. Stroman has been presented with dozens of awards and accolades, most recently certificates of recognition from New York City comptroller, Scott M. Stringer; the Community Partnership Program of East New York; the borough president, Eric Adams; and the AFSCME Women’s Leadership Academy. In addition to her work for the New York City Department of Education, Ms. Stroman is extremely involved in community outreach activities, and is a committed volunteer for New York Psychotherapy, K to Reach, and the Jewish Board of Brooklyn. She considers herself fortunate to have had the opportunity to dedicate her career to serving families and children and to have remained with the same district for more than two decades. As Ms. Stroman considers the next chapter of her career, she looks forward to focusing on helping families learn financial literacy and develop life skills outside a school setting.
