Cynthi Knight, MBA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, PCC

With a career spanning nearly 50 years, Cynthi Knight, MBA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, PCC, has established herself as a distinguished leader in executive coaching and human resources. Since 2024, she has served as a senior career coach at SparkEffect, where she specializes in career transition coaching for professionals navigating layoffs and industry pivots. Ms. Knight’s expertise in professional development and executive coaching is further demonstrated through her concurrent role as executive coach and consultant at Winning Leaders, a practice she founded in 2017. She is known for practicing active listening, reflecting insights and creating customized leadership development plans that identify growth opportunities.

From 2019 to 2024, Ms. Knight was an independent senior consultant specializing in career transitions at Waldron, which later merged with SparkEffect. Simultaneously with that role, she operated CAKnight and Associates as an executive coach and consultant, building off 35 years as a self-employed human resources consultant. Ms. Knight’s earlier experience includes developing her skills across a range of noteworthy positions: manager of the team member services and development division and later director of human resources at the Tucson Airport Authority; associate director of career development at The University of Arizona; professor at Webster University in affiliation with Luke Air Force Base; and manager of training and development at the California Institute of Technology. Her career journey began in 1978 as a branch manager, senior human resources administrator, and administrator for management development and training at McDonnell Douglas Corporation.

Among her accomplishments, Ms. Knight considers her recruitment by the California Institute of Technology in 1991 to be a defining milestone. She was asked to join the institution and establish its training and development department. Ms. Knight built that program from the ground up, developing comprehensive curricula. During this time, she also forged relationships with key leaders, delivering content that added lasting value to the school.

Ms. Knight’s influence extends into the nonprofit sector through her long-standing involvement with the National Charity League Inc., where she currently heads their leadership development implementation team and sits on the board of directors. Having served as founding president of the Tucson Chapter and on the accounting board for the Scottsdale Chapter, she now helps deliver training content to leaders across more than 300 chapters nationwide.

Prior to embarking upon her vocational path, Ms. Knight pursued an education she could rely on, beginning with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on management from Northern Arizona University’s W.A. Franke College of Business in 1978. She obtained a Master of Business Administration in general business from Loyola Marymount University in 1984. Two years later, Ms. Knight earned an executive program certificate in advanced management from Claremont Graduate University. She has solidified her commitment to professional excellence through numerous certifications, including as a professional coach, a senior professional in human resources and a board-certified coach.

Outside of her career, Ms. Knight is a loving wife, mother to three daughters and grandmother to one grandson. She values family above all else, cherishing time spent with her spouse, Darin, and the opportunity to travel. While continuing her passion-driven work, Ms. Knight aims to focus on more personal pursuits in the coming years. In particular, she plans to prioritize writing with greater consistency, allowing her to share insight gained from her decades of transformative leadership.
