
Nicole E. Delgado-Salisbury, EdD, is a dedicated medical educator and behavioral health faculty member committed to advancing physician training, patient-centered communication, and organizational well-being. Since 2019, she has served as an education specialist and a behavioral health faculty member at the Saint Joseph’s Family Medicine Residency Program in Yonkers, New York, where she teaches behavioral health, longitudinal behavioral medicine, population health, community medicine, and residency wellbeing.
Dr. Delgado-Salisbury also serves as director of wellness across the family medicine, psychiatry, and podiatry residency programs. In this capacity, she leads sessions on mindfulness, stress reduction, and resilience, providing residents with practical strategies for sustainable practice. She co-chairs the residency’s recruitment and research committees, interviewing more than 100 applicants annually and guiding faculty and residents in scholarly activities, Institutional Review Board development, and national conference presentations.
A passionate advocate for health literacy, Dr. Delgado-Salisbury promotes clear and inclusive communication between physicians and patients, incorporating methods such as “teach-back” and simplifying complex medical language. Before her work in graduate medical education, she spent more than a decade with the New York City Department of Education as a literacy specialist and teacher leader. She also served as a school building administrator and holds New York State certification in school district leadership.
Dr. Delgado-Salisbury currently holds part-time academic appointments as a field specialist at Fordham University and as an assistant professor at the New York Medical College School of Medicine. She is also a faculty senator on the New York Medical College Faculty Senate. She actively supports Master of Public Health students as a practicum site supervisor through both New York Medical College and Chamberlain University College of Health Professions.
Building a strong academic foundation, Dr. Delgado-Salisbury earned a Bachelor of Arts in religion and history from Hunter College, a Master of Science in literacy and education from Long Island University, and a Master of Science in educational leadership and administration. She also acquired a Doctor of Education in educational leadership, administration, and policy from Fordham University.
Dr. Delgado-Salisbury completed the Pediatrics for an Equitable Developmental Start (PEDS) Network Fellowship Program with the United Hospital Fund in 2023 and was selected as co-chair of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) New Faculty Collaborative. She is also an active participant in STFM’s diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility curriculum pilot and serves on the Family Medicine Education Consortium Faculty Development Collaborative. Her professional affiliations include the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and the World Organization of National Colleges, Academies and Academic Associations of General Practitioners/Family Physicians.
Dr. Delgado-Salisbury’s scholarship has contributed to increased national visibility for her program, with regular presentations at major conferences. She has received Innovation Awards in 2022 and 2023 and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine.
Above all, Dr. Delgado-Salisbury is deeply committed to mentoring future physicians and making a lasting impact on medical education, community health, and wellness. She is also a proud mother to Claire and Grace, balancing her professional contributions with a deep commitment to family and lifelong learning.
