A psychiatric nurse practitioner, Linda Sillars is currently flourishing at the head of her private mental health practice in Auburn, N.Y. There, she practices psychotherapy management and psychiatric medical management and oversees the day-to-day operations of the organization. She also works with veterans suffering from PTSD and trauma and consults with nursing homes. To prepare for her career, she earned a master’s degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo and became a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner.
In addition to her practical work, Ms. Sillars also helps with support and recovery on the ACT team at Catholic Charities, where she oversees 65 chronically and mentally ill people with a team of case managers, therapists and nurses. Their goal is to keep these individuals out of jail and hospitals. In her role, she helps people with mental illness determine the course of their own lives by advising on house, work, well-being, and medical and social structures. Additionally, she helped to establish protocol for sexual abuse. Prior to her current endeavors, Ms. Sillars worked as a psychiatric nurse practitioner for DeWitt Counseling Service, a leading health care facility in Syracuse. She has also worked at Auburn Memorial Hospital, honing her skills, and at the Cayuga Community Mental Health Center.
Ms. Sillars is not just an experienced nurse practitioner, however; she is also an established artist who enjoys the decorative and fine arts. Notably, she has artwork hanging in a child advocacy center.
Looking to the future, Ms. Sillars will be going back to school to become certified in child and adolescent care this fall. She hopes to expand her knowledge in her field, and believes it’s important to never stop growing. Ms. Sillars also plans to continue practicing psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. She attributes her ongoing success and longevity to her array of experiences.
In her spare time, Ms. Sillars enjoys creating art, painting, reading, playing tennis, sailing, attending the theater, and watching films and sports.
